WHAT ARE CITATION TOOLS? Citation tools help you store, organize, and share your research citations. They also automatically format your bibliographies and in-text citations into whatever style you need (APA, MLA, Chicago, and many more). WHICH TOOL SHOULD I USE? The biggest change since 2015 is that some reference managers will now directly. Software to be maintained long-term, and a subscription is the best business. UW Libraries supports four citation managers: EndNote Basic, Mendeley, RefWorks, and Zotero. These citation managers provide the same basic features -- they allow you to save citations, organize them into folders or libraries, and generate bibliographies and citations as you write. To decide which tool is right for you, review the charts below and talk with people in your department about the tools they use and why. Once you choose a tool, know that you can always change your mind; sources can easily be transferred between tools. (Please note that attachments don't always transfer.) Mendeley Institutional Sign-on Alert • Mendeley recently added an option to create an account using an institutional login. This is currently not working properly. When creating a new account do not choose this option. • In some cases (such as if you have a pre-existing Elsevier account), you may be forced to create your account using Touchstone. To get around this, use a non-MIT email address. You will still get the extra storage. • If you do create an account with Touchstone, rather than by setting a password, you will not be able to use Mendeley desktop. Request to reset your password or contact Mendeley tech support using the email option at the bottom of the. Indicate that you are an institutional subscriber. In either case, it may take several days to receive a response. Mendeley IP Access Update • Mendeley institutional access is now based on IP address.
